At Ring of Hope, our mission to empower young people knows no borders. We recently had the incredible pleasure of traveling to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, to connect with a passionate group of promising local youth.

Our journey led us to the heart of the city, to El Poli Deportivo de Puerto Plata, a boxing gym run by Jonathan Boxing.

Marcos Toribio on our team had previously trained with Jonathan, making this reunion a special opportunity to collaborate. We shared our vision of hosting a youth workshop, and with Jonathan’s blessing, the planning immediately swung into motion. To prepare for the big day, we designed custom T-shirts for all participating youth and coaches, received activity approval from José Bierd, President of Asociación de Boxeo de Puerto Plata, and designed an engaging itinerary focused on skill-building and teamwork.

When event day arrived, the energy in the room was electric. We kicked things off with introductions and foundational drills, transitioned into an interactive training workshop, and wrapped up with some spirited sparring sessions. It was an unforgettable evening filled with determination, high energy, and a sense of community.

Looking Ahead

This trip was just the beginning of our commitment to the youth of Puerto Plata. To support these young athletes long-term, we are launching a Buy One, Give One equipment campaign in partnership with Joe's Boxing Shop, a NYC based shop that crafts high-quality boxing equipment.

Through this partnership, every pair of gloves purchased through this campaign, matches a brand-new pair directly to a young boxer at El Poli Deportivo.

Follow Ring of Hope and Joe’s Boxing Shop on all platforms, so you don’t miss out on our campaign launch! We’d love for you to join us as we work to support the next generation of fighters, right here in our community and around the world! Ring of Hope
